"Auntie Doris" Quinlan, Foster Committee

(Webmaster's note: Doris is one of PCSR's longtime volunteers, and she has fostered many, many  dogs.  Anyone who knows Doris is aware that her REAL name is actually "Auntie Doris" because she has been a "foster auntie" to so many dogs and a good "auntie" to all of her fellow volunteers!  Pictured with Doris are her sheltie Rosie and her little cutie-pie mix Spunky.)

I don't foster dogs because I want to "try out" a dog before I adopt it.
I don't foster dogs because I am looking for a "free" dog.
I don't foster dogs because I am looking for something easy to do in my spare time.

I foster dogs because there are so many dogs that need that extra help to get them ready to be adopted.  I have the extra space in my home and in my heart to work with a foster dog to get it ready for adoption.  When a foster is adopted I know that it is going to a good home and I once again have the extra space in my home and heart for another dog that needs me.

I have been involved with PCSR since I met a sad, shy, shaved sheltie in 1999.  In the past ten years I have lost count of the number of fosters that have come into my home and heart.  Each of them have touched me in their own special way. All of them were adopted including four which I eventually had to adopt because they had found a permanent spot in my home and in my heart. Seeing a shy, distrustful dog become confident and outgoing is truly a wonder to experience.   Working with foster dogs is a challenge and also a pleasure.

Jan Larson-Miller, Board Member/Fundraising Committee

Jan Larson-Miller is a recent retiree from the legal profession who is "living the dream" with her two adopted shelties, traveling to wonderful places in the U.S. in her RV.  Joey, a beautiful mahogany sable sheltie, is a PCSR rescue.  Rodeo came from a breeding operation in Texas.  Rodeo and Joey enjoy a good daily romp in the dog park (don't forget the tennis balls!)  and feast on homemade dog food before settling in on Mom's lap in front of the fire.  Jan  "came over to the sheltie side" in 2001 with her first sheltie, Mickey.  During the "sheltie years," Jan and her dogs have participated in performance events, including agility and herding.

Jan's "non-dog" family includes daughter Beth and her husband John who live in Pennsylvania with their two beautiful teenage daughters and son Eric and his wife Christine who have 6-month old twins in Sacramento.  Beth and Eric comment that as children, they never received as many "perks" as Rodeo and Joey enjoy!  Jan has lived in the Denver area since 1981.

Jan brings an expertise in fundraising to the board and is having a blast attending the many festivals and fairs in which PCSR participates.   Serving her first term as a PCSR board member is a great opportunity to familiarize people with collies and shelties while assuring  our rescue dogs a safe haven while they await  their "forever homes."
